Abstract: 1. Objectives: We aimed to derive constitutional facial characteristics with front and side picture of the people in this study 2. Methods: Through November 2007 to July 2009, we obtained front and side face photograph data of 715 male/female constitution confirmed subjects within the age range of 10-80 from 19 oriental medical facilities in the country. According to sex, we divided the subjects into two groups, real constitution group and non-constitution group. We analyzed significant variables of distance, angle and ratio of facial point through unpaired T-test. 3. Results: There are different significant variables according to Sasang Constitution and even though they are much different between sex, the interpretation of the meaning of those variables are similar with the written characteristics of ancient Writing. The face size of the Taeeumin is bigger than that of the non-Taeeumin, and especially they have long length from mouth to mandible angle. Soeumin have small jaw area, long philtrum and narrow facial feature like egg. Soyangin has developed forehead and glabella, short jaw, long eye side. Taeyangin has developed forehead, weak nose especially side end of nose, long eye side. 4. Conclusions: Sasang Constitutional facial characteristics are different between man and woman but there are much similarity with the facts as known on the interpretation of significant variables characteristics.

TL;DR: A new speech classification algorithm based on the SVM technique, which is a classification method to classify two distinct groups by finding voluntary nonlinear boundary in vector space appears efficient compared to the standard classification algorithm which classifies only into 3 constitutional groups.
Abstract: 1. Objectives: Voice diagnosis has been used to classify individuals into the Sasang constitution in SCM(Sasang Constitution Medicine) and to recognize his/her health condition in TKM(Traditional Korean Medicine). In this paper, we purposed a new speech classification algorithm for Sasang constitution. 2. Methods: This algorithm is based on the SVM(Support Vector Machine) technique, which is a classification method to classify two distinct groups by finding voluntary nonlinear boundary in vector space. It showed high performance in classification with a few numbers of trained data set. We designed for this algorithm using 3 SVM classifiers to classify into 4 groups, which are composed of 3 constitutional groups and additional indecision group. 3. Results: For the optimal performance, we found that 32.2% of the voice data were classified into three constitutional groups and 79.8% out of them were grouped correctly. 4. Conclusions: This new classification method including indecision group appears efficient compared to the standard classification algorithm which classifies only into 3 constitutional groups. We find that more thorough investigation on the voice features is required to improve the classification efficiency into Sasang constitution.

Methods In the traditional Korean medicine, skin diagnosis is one of the examination methods to discriminate Sasang constitution since it was known that Tae-eumin has rough skin, and Soyangin has smooth one. It is based on the skin roughness on the back of one's hand for the discrimination. The measurement device of skin friction with 3-axis load cell sensor has been developed in order to provide quantitative skin roughness through dynamic friction coefficients. The effective interval of the coefficients is obtained from the automatic sampling algorithm to use their curvature and slope. Then, Fisher's discriminant function of them makes the discrimination. 3. Results The success rate of extracting the effective interval was about 90% and the discriminant accuracy between Tae-eumin and Soyangin was 70% and 68% for men and women, respectively. The entire methods showed the possibility to distinguish between Tae-eumin and Soyangin by using stochastic properties of roughness index, which can make the entire system to include the measurement, the computation of the roughness index and the discrimination of constitution automatical. 4. Conclusions The measurement device, the automatic sampling algorithm of dynamic friction coefficients and the constitution discrimination algorithm were developed, respectively, and their combination can become the serial and automatic procedure for quantitative and objective skin diagnosis, which mimics the movement of the Oriental medical doctors' skin diagnosis. It can be applied to healthcare as well as the diagnosis of constitution in a u-Health system soon.
