TL;DR: This study provides evidence that excessive scarring is associated with a failure to eliminate TGF β receptor overexpressing fibroblasts during granulation tissue remodeling, which leads to a persistent autocrine, positive feedback loop that results in over production of matrix proteins and subsequent fibrosis.
Abstract: In the present study we have analyzed and compared,by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization, the expression pattern of the R4/ALK5 transforming growth factor (TGF) β type Ⅰ receptor(RI) and the TGF β type Ⅱ receptor(RII) in normal human skin,in wounded skin at various stages during the transition of wound granulation tissue to scar, and in longpersisting post burn hypertrophic scars. In normal human skin, expression of RI and RII was clearly visible in the epidermis,in epidermal appendages, and in vascular cells, although only a small number of dermal fibroblasts revealed detectable levels of TGF β receptor expression. In contrast, granulation tissue fibroblasts showed strong expression of both TGF β receptor types, although in normal healing excisional wounds their density decreased during granulation tissue remodeling. However,in post burn hypertrophic scars,RI and RII overexpressing fibroblasts were found in high densities up to 20 months after injury. From these findings we suggest that the repair process of deep wounds involves the transformation of a subset of fibroblastic cells toward an increased TGF β responsiveness and a transient accumulation of these cells at the wound site. In addition, our study provides evidence that excessive scarring is associated with a failure to eliminate TGF β receptor overexpressing fibroblasts during granulation tissue remodeling, which leads to a persistent autocrine, positive feedback loop that results in over production of matrix proteins and subsequent fibrosis.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared partial least square (PLS) and OLS (ordinary least square) stepwise regression, and showed that PLS was better than OLS stepwise regressions with multicollinearity.
Abstract: AIM: To study partial least square (PLS), a new robust statistical analysis dealing with serious multicollinearity and a small sample with numerous predictor variables. METHODS: The discretion between PLS and OLS (ordinary least square) stepwise regression was shown by a case. RESULTS: It was illustrated by this case that in goodness of fit and prediction, PLS was better than OLS stepwise regression, another statistical technique dealing with multicollinearity. CONCLUSION: As a soft statistical modeling method, PLS is rather robust. It needs not exclude any predictor variable or observation at all. PLS has many advantages such as simplicity and robustness, highly predicted precision, clearly qualitative explanation. Usually it is used to explore data and cope with multicollinearity. It is particularly powerful when the number of predictor variables is large and the sample size is small. However, the principal disadvantage of PLS is that it cannot provide quantitative explanation for the relationship between predictor variables and response variables.

TL;DR: Cementless bipolar hemiarthroplasty is the safe method for displaced femoral neck fractures in the elderly, and two cases with loose femoral stems were revised and the rest of the plant had the evidence of bone ingrowth.
Abstract: AIM: To analyze whether cementless bipolar hemiarthroplasty is the better method for displaced femoral neck fractures in the elderly.METHODS: From 2002 to 2005,we cured 96 patients of displaced femoral neck fractures who had a mean age of 77 years,96 hip,by cementless bipolar hemiarthroplasty.RESULTS: The mean follow-up was 3 years and Harris hip scores averaged 82.Two cases with loose femoral stems were revised and the rest of the plant were stable and had the evidence of bone ingrowth.Because of the groin pain 6 patients were revised THA.CONCLUSION: Cementless bipolar hemiarthroplasty is the safe method for displaced femoral neck fractures in the elderly.

TL;DR: It is showed that the 32P - HIV nudeotide probes, amplified by PCR, are highly specific and sensitive.
Abstract: Two pairs of synthetic olignudeotide primers of HIV gene was taken from nuddc acid sequence as from 6 310 to 6 328,6 666 to 6 684 of the provirus of ARV- 2; and from 6 339 to 6 374, 6 385 to 6 419 of the provirus of HTLV -Ⅲ. Using these paired primers, two DNA segments were amplified by PCR with pARV- 2/7A as template. The DNA segments were labded with (α- 32P) - dATP and were applied into Southern and dot blot hybridisation, using the pCP10(contain HBV gene), M56 (contain Hantavirus M segment), JEV B, Human chromosome DNA as control. It is showed that the 32P - HIV nudeotide probes, amplified by PCR, are highly specific and sensitive.

TL;DR: The rate of MR is high in Ningqiang, Zhashui and Ankang areas and study of this kind is of help in the prevention and treatment of MR children in the whole Qinba Mountain areas.
Abstract: AIM: To survey the incidence rate, the borderline rate, the severity and pathogenesis of mental retarded (MR) children in Qinba Mountain areas. METHODS: All the children aged 0 14 in Ningqiang, Zhashui and Ankang areas were divided into three groups by area. The potential MR children were chosen for this study by intelligence screening. IQ test and pathological examination were performed. RESULTS: ① The incidence rate of the three areas was 3.19% and the borderline rate was 4.41%, totaling 7.60%.② The incidence rate and the borderline rate increased with age. ③ The majority of MR children had mild symptoms and the proportions between borderline, mild and severe symptoms were 5.3 : 2.9 : 1. ④ In this study, the pathogenesis was clear in 36.3% of the MR children while that of 63.7% was not clear. CONCLUSION: The rate of MR is high in these three areas. Study of this kind is of help in the prevention and treatment of MR children in the whole Qinba Mountain areas.
