Abstract: The Committee on Terminal Facilities has developed material which has as its primary objective the identification, organization, and documentation of the diversified range of future impact factors which demand flexibility in the programming, planning, and design of air passenger handling facilities. Basic categories of these impact factors include: Technological Developments, Socio-economic Developments, and Institutional/Regulatory Developments. The documentation includes correlations of probable future events in these major categories with various impact characteristics such as generators, recipients, moderators, relevance/significance, passenger terminal components as well as probability and timing of event occurence. The resultant series of matrices will serve as a systematic guide for airport planners, engineers, and architects participating in the development and evaluation of concepts and detailed plans for expansion or remodeling of existing passenger handling facilities as well as designing new terminal facilities on a variety of airports.

Abstract: The foremost requirement for deep polymer impregnation of thick concrete slabs is thorough drying to remove all evaporable water from the pore system in concrete To facilitate rapid repair of bridge decks with polymer impregnation, it is desirable to dry the concrete from the surface with surface temperatures not exceedings 700-800°F (370-420°C) A time-temperature-moisture loss study is presented on six 24x24x6-in(610x610x150-mm) concrete slabs, a 72x72x8-in(1800x1800x200-mm) slab and a small section of 7-1/2-in (190-mm) bridge deck The specimens were dried from one surface using an automated propane gas fired torch assembly The feasibility of high-temperature drying of concrete without cracking problems is demonstrated and a criterion for safe and rapid drying to the depth of 4-6-in(100-150-mm) in the field is developed

Abstract: Transportation plans and economic development plans for regional development are postulated with the presumption that the resulting pattern of land uses and activities resulting therefrom are mutually supportive. A study of rural regions in Iowa relating urban development goals to transportation policy and programs had resulted in a method of quantifying the regional distribution of transportation accessibility and the regional distribution of economic activity. Comparing the distribution of manufacturing activity with the distribution of retail activity provides a socioeconomic structuring of rural regions. This structuring of regions can then be compared to the distribution of transportation accessibility within regions and among regions to assess the consistency of the respective development planning. The analysis methodology has implied application beyond the study locations.
