TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that the primary method for bringing about constructive organizational change is through organizational development, which they contend is virtually synonymous with a climate-improvement program.
Abstract: who want to bring about constructive organizational change in their work setting. &dquo; The primary method for bringing about &dquo;constructive organizational change,&dquo; say the authors, is through &dquo;organizational development,&dquo; which they contend is &dquo;virtually synonymous with a climate-improvement program.&dquo; The book begins with two chapters on the theory and nature of organizational development. These two chapters, while providing useful background for anyone not familiar with organizational development, will not be easy reading for the busy principal. The authors’ considerable use of social science terminology such as &dquo;client subsystem&dquo; and &dquo;Macroaspects,&dquo; although perhaps necessary for communicating with other social scientists, could hinder the broader readership. However, if principals can avoid becoming frustrated with the social science trappings of the first two chapters, the rest of the book contains a number of useful ideas and techniques, and is fairly readable. Chapters on evaluation, diagnosis and readiness, communication, problem solving, decision making, and working with conflict should be of interest to many principals. The chapter on improving meetings is worth the price of the book by itself. In each of these chapters the important skills and concepts are defined and discussed, and examples of effective use

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose an on-the-job development strategy to encourage effective behavior in order to transfer the lessons learned in training to transfer to the real-world.
Abstract: 9. On-The-Job-Development. The key failing in contemporary management and executive development is getting the lessons learned in training to transfer back to the job. In Springfield this problem is solved by having participants plan specific onthe-job development activities with their developmental mentors. These activities are real, as opposed to simulated, and they need to be completed within four to six weeks after the simulation. Most importantly, these activities include specific goals which require the application of the behaviors learned during the simulation to the solution of problems. The strategy is to reinforce effective behavior. If someone learns a
