Abstract: : This article provides an overview of both theoretical and empirical literature on the link between public investment (capital) and economic growth (national income). We first survey the channels through which public capital can conceivably affect growth. We then turn to reviewing the existing empirical literature, and we conclude that although not all studies find a growth-enhancing effect of public capital, there is now more consensus than in the past that public capital furthers economic growth. However, the impact reported by recent studies is not as big as some earlier studies suggested. We conclude with an overview of what is known about the optimality of public capital stocks.

Abstract: Politik und offentliches Bewusstsein werden zunehmend durch okonomische Theorien und Handlungsvorschlage mitbestimmt. Kaum ein anderes erkenntnis- und handlungsleitendes Modell hat daher einen vergleichbaren Einfluss wie das Konzept des Homo Oeconomicus. Durch die Entwicklung experimenteller Methoden ist es moglich, die Annahmen dieses Konzepts unter kontrollierten Laborbedingungen mit dem tatsachlichen Handeln von Individuen zu vergleichen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden zunachst verschiedene Experimentalstudien diskutiert, die eindeutig belegen, das der Homo Oeconomicus weitaus weniger universell ist, als gemeinhin angenommen. Die Mehrheit der Experimentalteilnehmer verhalt sich reziprok, d.h. sie belohnt faires Verhalten und bestraft unfaires Verhalten, selbst wenn dies mit Kosten verbunden ist. Der Nachweis reziproken Verhaltens hat weitreichende Konsequenzen fur die okonomische Politikberatung.

Abstract: Due to its formality and highly analytic thinking, economics is often attributed a leading role among the social sciences and a prominent position as contributor to economic or social issues in the real world. Fact is, however, that the empirical proof for such a claim is either missing or anecdotal.
This paper aims to outline the ‘economics of economics’. It surveys and compares approaches of impact measurement such as a production function of economics or the demand and supply of trained economists. It furthermore discriminates between the impact of economic ideas versus that of economists as scientists or politicians.

Abstract: : This paper surveys the literature on the economic impact of climate change. Different methods have been used to estimate the impact of climate change on human welfare. Studies agree that there are positive and negative impacts. In the short term, positive impacts may dominate, but these are largely sunk. In the longer term, there are net negative impacts. Poorer people tend to be more vulnerable to climate change. There is a trade-off between development policy and climate policy. Estimated aggregate impacts are not very large, but they are uncertain and incomplete. Estimates of the marginal impacts suggest that greenhouse gas emissions should be taxed, and that the emission reduction targets announced by politicians are probably too ambitious.

Abstract: Einleitung: Untersuchungen uber die Organisation und die Qualitat okonomischer Forschung sind im angelsachsischen Raum - spatestens sei Leijonhufvud's mittlerweile schon klassischem Artikel "Life among the Econ" (1973) - recht verbreitet. Mit der zunehmenden Evaluierung von Hochschulen und Forschungsinstituten verstarkt sich auch im deutschsprachigen Raum das Interesse daran, wie volkswirtschaftliche Forschungsleistungen gemessen und bewertet werden konnen. Oft werden Veroffentlichungen in okonomischen Fachzeitschriften als Indikator fur die Forschungsleistung eines Okonomen gewertet, obwohl zum Teil Zweifel an der Qualitat des Selektionsmechanismus bzw. des Gutachterprozesses bei Zeitschriften geausert werden. Sowohl einzelne Okonomen als auch ganze Fakultaten sind auf dieser Basis evaluiert worden. ...
