Abstract: Argentine historiography accepts, in general terms, that the conquest of the southern territories and the subjection of its indigenous peoples were necessary for the construction of the nation State. However, the analysis of the political discourse of that period reveals a complex process, in which the military phase appeared late, and during which the ideas that nowadays are characterized as the «discourse of conquest» chrystallized only gradually. In 1867 this discourse became a political programme encapsulated in law 215, but in Sarmiento’s writings, in which it originated, there was a recognition of an alternative to the dominant perception of the problem as «desert/savages». Acceptance of that image gradually imposed a «logic of conquest» that then became the canonical version of the incorporation of the Pampa-Patagonia territory into the Argentine State.

Abstract: El presente articulo esta compuesto por dos partes claramente diferenciadas. La primera sintetiza los ejes principales del analisis de redes sociales desde el punto de vista teorico, recapitulando su trayectoria desde la Sociologia hasta la Historia y, poniendo de manifiesto las dificultades que plantea su aplicacion en el campo propiamente historico. La segunda parte, de caracter mas empirico, plantea y explica la propuesta del presente dossier, consistente en resaltar los margenes de libertad y los factores aparentemente imprevisibles que tienen lugar en la interaccion de los individuos y su medio social, enlazando los diversos aspectos en ella abordados con las conclusiones alcanzadas por los investigadores que participan en esta iniciativa. Dentro de este mismo apartado, se analizan algunos aspectos del papel desempenado por los planteamientos de redes en el estudio del ejercicio del poder en la America Hispana.

Abstract: Desde los anos sesenta, la historia de la infancia -y de los ninos- ha sufrido una progresiva evolucion, que ha permitido establecer una interrelacion entre su objeto de estudio y ambitos como la sociedad, la cultura o las relaciones internacionales. Este articulo aborda este amplio recorrido a traves de aquellas aportaciones mas relevantes centradas en las experiencias de los ninos estadounidenses. Asimismo, a modo de caso practico, el autor engloba algunas de estas lineas de estudio que han ido apareciendo en la historiografia norteamericana -familia, educacion, productos de entretenimiento, etc.- bajo un mismo eje tematico, las repercusiones de la Guerra Fria en los mas pequenos. De este modo, se aspira a proporcionar una vision -general y particular- sobre las posibilidades que ofrece esta rica disciplina historiografica para un mayor conocimiento sobre ciertos acontecimientos y procesos historicos en los Estados Unidos.
