TL;DR: Assessment of the extent of Indian medical journals covered by the IndMed comparing the list of medical and allied sciences journals cover by Indian Science Abstracts and Suggestions are made as to how the Ind med can improve its coverage.
Abstract: India has the legacy of Susrutha and Charaka, its ancient medical practioners but the scholarly literature on modern medicine is scanty. The bibliographic work carried out by Dr John Shaw Billings is unmatched. Due to his contribution the Index Medicus (now-MEDLINE) stands as the most important database of biomedical literature. The services of MEDLINE were extended to all countries over the years and India had its services through MEDLARS Centre at NIC. The coverage of Indian medical literature in MEDLINE was not comprehensive and this affects visibility of Indian medical research output. So Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) launched IndMed and MedInd. There are no studies investigating the coverage, the services and the gaps in coverage of IndMed. This study seeks to assess the extent of Indian medical journals covered by the IndMed comparing the list of medical and allied sciences journals covered by Indian Science Abstracts. Suggestions are made as to how the IndMed can improve its coverage.

Abstract: The main objectives of the study were to assess the level of user satisfaction with regard to the following types of Electronic Information Resources (EIRs) relevant to agriculture and allied disciplines, viz. Indexing and Abstracting (IA e-Journals; e-Books; and e-Theses. Seven universities were surveyed using a questionnaire for collecting data. The investigator used telephonic and e-mail communication and had a face-to-face interaction with respondents to substantiate the responses and remove ambiguities. The level of users’ satisfaction has been measured using a five point Likert scale. A great majority of respondents are satisfied about the availability of e-abstract databases (87.92%) and e-journals (89.67%). Despite the fact that only three of the surveyed libraries are found to subscribe to a single e-book collection of 600 titles, surprisingly a good percentage of the library users (69.08%) are satisfied with the availability of e-books. Same is the case with e-theses, whereof the majority of respondents (60.33%) are satisfied, despite the fact that only one e-theses database that too only of Indian coverage i.e., KrishiPrabha is made available to users.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the perceptions and attitudes towards Institutional Repositories (IR) and open access publishing among the faculty members in the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
Abstract: The main objective of the study was to examine the perceptions and attitudes towards Institutional Repositories (IR) and open access publishing among the faculty members in the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Survey method was adapted and a questionnaire was distributed among all permanent academics in the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. The results revealed that only 40% of the respondents were aware of open access publishing and nearly 15% of them had never heard of "open access". These results gave an insight that majority of the respondents are not familiar with 'open access'. The results further revealed that 15% of the respondents learnt about institutional repositories through web search engine while 13% learnt from information provided at faculty or meeting held in the university and by working in subject based archives. Only 44% of the respondents were aware of the university digital repository and 47% mentioned that they were not aware of it. The interesting finding is that 55% of the respondents reported their willingness to contribute to the university digital repository in future while 18% of them were not willing to contribute. Most of the respondents contributed to IR because they support the principle of open access and the major barrier to contribute to IR is fear of plagiarism.

TL;DR: To predict the correlation, if any, between the journal impact factor, SCImago ranking, Eigenfactor score and H-index of Analytical chemistry journals and quality of these journals, seventy five analytical chemistry journals indexed in WoS and Scopus databases were selected.
Abstract: Aim of this research study is to predict the correlation, if any, between the journal impact factor, SCImago ranking, Eigenfactor score and H-index of Analytical chemistry journals and quality of these journals. JIF is considered a good parameter for evaluation of scientific journals but has been criticized on many counts such as self-citation, limitation to English language etc. Seventy five (75) analytical chemistry journals indexed in WoS and Scopus databases were selected in this research for comparison of various indices. Correlations between indices (JIF, ES, SJR, and H-index) were evaluated using Pearson and Spearson’s correlation. Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry was at the top with JIF of 8.0 and the lowest for American Laboratory journal with JIF of 0.028. In case of SCImago ranking, Eigenfactor score and H-index, highest valued journals were reported as Annual Review of Analytical Chemistry (SJR = 3.078), Analytical Chemistry (ES = 0.1588) and Analytical Chemistry (H-index = 109). Lowest valued journals were reported as American Laboratory journal (SJR = 0.106), Archeosciences-Revue D Archeometrie (ES = 0.0001) and Instrumentation Science and Technology (H-index = 0). Throughout the study, none of the journals had the same ranking to compare different indicators. Pearson’s correlation between JIF and SJR values reached a high value (0.936) as compared to either ES (0.558) or H5 (0.567).

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored the status of collection in agricultural libraries of North India and assessed the impact of the advent of Electronic Information Resources (EIRs) on acquisition.
Abstract: Purpose : This paper is an attempt to explore the status of collection in Agricultural libraries of North India and assess the impact of the advent of Electronic Information Resources (EIRs) on acquisition. Design/Methodology/Approach : A questionnaire was used as data collection tool to collect data from the University Librarians. Telephonic interaction and e-mail correspondence was also used to clear doubts, remove ambiguities and obtain data from the respondents. Findings : The majority of the agricultural libraries in north India have a sound collection of information resources in print form, which may continue to act as a source of attraction for users in future for a long time to come. Yet the acquisition of information resources in print form across the studied libraries continues at routine pace, and as such the advent of e-resources seems to have not yet had any prominent impact on acquisition of resources in print form. E-Books have not yet been fully incorporated into the library collection and the e-journal collection 'CeRA' seems to meet the needs of users, as no additional e-journals are seen to be subscribed. Research Limitations : Only seven agricultural libraries have been taken as a sample. Moreover, the work is confined to only 2 aspects i.e. current status and the impact of EIRs on acquisition of information resources. Other aspects like that of collection development; storage and accommodation; preservation; library functionality and library services need to be studied as well. Originality/Value - This is the first work of its nature in north India and the findings should help librarians to decide on print and electronic forms of information resources that need to be acquired.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the provision of library and information services to part-time, postgraduate students in Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library of the University of Nairobi.
Abstract: The quest for higher education in Kenya has compelled universities to redesign their academic programmes and develop different modes of study such as work-based, vocational and part-time. As universities introduce these modes of study, libraries are also obliged to redesign their information resources and services to effectively serve users enrolled in these programmes. However, little is known of how university libraries are prepared to provide services to these groups of learners. The study investigated the provision of library and information services to part-time, postgraduate students in Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library of the University of Nairobi. The objectives were to identify the usage patterns of library and information services offered to part-time postgraduate students; determine the suitability of the regulatory framework governing the provision of library and information services; and identify the factors that influence the provision of library and information services to part-time postgraduate students. The study involved part-time postgraduate students and library staff. The study was guided by Ranganathan’s Laws of Library Science and utilized models of informationseeking behaviour and information-seeking. This was a case study in which data was collected using questionnaires and interview guides. The total population was 7,053 registered part-time postgraduate students out of which a sample of 379 students was selected through stratified random sampling using Yamane’s simplified formula, while 11 library staff was purposively chosen. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics such as weighted averages, frequencies and percentages while qualitative data was analyzed through content analysis. The study found that part-time postgraduate students had a low usage of Jomo Kenyatta Memorial Library, which could be attributed to lack of time. It was established that the Library had a regulatory framework governing the provision of library and information services to all readers and not specific to part-time postgraduate students. The study also found that several factors including accessibility, personal experience, and relevance, and reliability, ease of use, familiarity, cost and format were important in determining the part-time postgraduate students’ efforts to pursue information. The study further revealed that challenges including inadequate funds to design specific services that would sufficiently meet the needs of part-time postgraduate students, inadequate literacy skills among the students, lack of expertise, inadequate staff and lack of understanding of the parttime postgraduate students’ information needs were encountered in the provision of library and information services to part-time postgraduate students. The study recommended that universities should integrate information literacy in their academic programmes, review library policies, carry out user surveys, and embed librarians in postgraduate students’ environment.
