TL;DR: Technostress negatively impacts performance by shifting attention from work-congruent stress to internal states of distress; reducing the ability to process information accurately; slowing response time to computer generated demands; and disturbing normal work-rest patterns as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Technostress (failure of employees to adapt to modern office technology) training helps determine performance problems early and helps promote effective use of technology. Resistance to computer technology is not unusual, but understanding such resistance is important if the technology is to be effectively implemented. New learning skills are essential to make rapid and performance-oriented adjustments to new technology. Failure results in technostress. Technostress negatively impacts performance by: shifting attention from work-congruent stress to internal states of distress; reducing the ability to process information accurately; slowing response time to computer generated demands; and disturbing normal work-rest patterns. Problem areas are identified; coping with data input and managing undercover rebellion are discussed. Technostress training processes and participant self assessment methods are described. (kbc)

Abstract: Decreased productivity isn't the only loss suffered by companies that abuse their employees. Workplace trauma (the resulting condition of this abuse) has cost companies billions more in wrongful termination, sexual harassment and defamation suits as well as outplacement costs, workers' compensation and health care. Poor management is only partly to blame for this costly problem because its roots are in the culture of the organization. Find out how to detect workplace trauma and deal with it.
