Abstract
\n In 2019, the Forest Productivity Cooperative (FPC) celebrated its 50th anniversary. The mission of the FPC is and has been creating innovative solutions to enhance forest productivity and value through the sustainable management of site resources. This industry-government-university partnership has generated seminal research with sweeping implications for increasing productivity throughout the southeastern United States and Latin America. To commemorate this semicentennial, we highlighted some of the pivotal findings in the southeastern United States from the past 50 years derived from our large, regional experiments: regionwide trials.

Perspectives: Thirty years of triad forestry, a critical clarification of theory and recommendations for implementation and testing

TL;DR: The triad is an auspicious landscape approach, but to date there is very little empirical evidence supporting triad over alternatives, thus experimental and observation studies are needed to compare the efficacy of the triad approach over other forest landscape management schemes as discussed by the authors .

NPK fertilizer use in loblolly pine plantations: Who are we really feeding?

TL;DR: In this article , the authors explore how the most commonly commercially applied macronutrients, N, P, and K, affect the relationship between loblolly pine and ectomycorrhizal fungal communities, and propose future directions to investigate, preserve, and manipulate these interactions in pine plantations to optimize productivity.

Climate Smart Forestry in the Southern United States

TL;DR: In this article , the authors provide a broad overview of CSF by highlighting one of the most productive and prolific forest systems in the United States, loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) plantations.

Duration of response to nitrogen and phosphorus applications in mid-rotation Pinus taeda

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors quantified the response duration to one-time applications of 112, 224, and 336 kg of elemental nitrogen combined with 28 or 56 kg of phosphorus in mid-rotation Pinus taeda L. stands.

Leaf Area and Above- and Belowground Growth Responses of Loblolly Pine to Nutrient and Water Additions

TL;DR: A 2 x 2 nutrient and water factorial experiment with four replications was installed in an 8-yr-old stand of Ioblolly pine growing on an infertile, excessively drained sandy site in Scotland County, North Carolina, and observed an increase in stem volume growth efficiency.

The Development of Pine Plantation Silviculture in the Southern United States

TL;DR: The success story that is southern pine forestry was facilitated by the application of research results generated through cooperative work of the US Forest Service, southern forestry schools, state forestry agencies, and forest industry as discussed by the authors.
