In this article, an integrated CO2 laser and beam manipulator designed specifically for surgical research work is descirbed, and operational characteristics of the instrument relevant to such work are reported.Abstract:
The characteristics of CO2 lasers that render them interesting for surgical applications are reviewed. An instrument consisting of an integrated CO2 laser and beam manipulator, designed specifically for surgical research work, is descirbed. Operational characteristics of the instrument relevant to such work are reported. An accessory for endoscopic surgery is described and instrumentation for microsurgery is discussed. Surgical researches now in progress with this instrument are mentioned.read more

Intraocular carbon dioxide laser photocautery.
TL;DR: In this paper, the advantages and disadvantages of the 10.6 micrometer infrared wavelength of carbon dioxide laser photocautery are discussed and the indications and contraindications for the use of CO 2 at the time of vitrectomy have been reviewed.

carbon dioxide surgical laser in neurological surgery, decubitus ulcers, and burns
TL;DR: The carbon dioxide laser possesses the physical and biological‐surgical properties of most value to the surgeon, and has the ability to vaporize, cut, and excise all tissue hemostatically, sterilizing as it proceeds.

Phonomicrosurgery i: principles and equipment
TL;DR: In the last decade of the 20th century, a group of procedures that are guided by physiologic principles of vocal fold oscillation so as to improve vocal outcome have emerged as mentioned in this paper.

Treatment of malignant disease in trachea and main-stem bronchi by carbon dioxide laser
TL;DR: The use of the carbon dioxide laser to remove intraluminal malignant lesions of the trachea and main-stem bronchi is described and decreased bleeding and the ability to provide an improved airway is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endoscopic laser treatment for bronchogenic carcinoma.
TL;DR: Laser therapy is one of several treatments available for neoplastic endotracheal or endobronchial obstruction, and exophytic lesions of the trachea and mainstem bronchi are most amenable to therapy by laser, and improvement in symptoms correlates best with improved patency of large airways.

Rapid endoscopic control of bleeding gastric erosions by laser radiation.
Robert L. Goodale,Akira Okada,Ricardo Gonzales,John W. Borner,Richard F. Edlich,Owen H. Wangensteen +5 more
TL;DR: In seven dogs, anesthetized and heparinized, bleeding ulcers caused by hot acid jets stopped after five seconds of laser radiation, and the rapid production of hemostasis leads to consideration of the CO2laser in certain poor-risk patients who have massive bleeding from gastric erosions.
