A system dynamics approach for regional environmental planning and management: a study for the Lake Erhai Basin.

TLDR
An environmental system dynamics model, named ErhaiSD, is developed for supporting this planning task of effective planning for the Lake Erhai Basin, China, and the results are directly useful for simulating and evaluating a variety of decision actions and their dynamic consequences.

Analysis of Urban Growth and Sprawl from Remote Sensing Data

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a comprehensive discussion on urban growth and sprawl, and how they can be analyzed using remote sensing imageries; their patterns, process, causes, consequences, and countermeasures; and what are the merits and demerits of available methods and models.

Forecasting municipal solid waste generation in a fast-growing urban region with system dynamics modeling

TL;DR: A new approach--system dynamics modeling--for the prediction of solid waste generation in a fast-growing urban area based on a set of limited samples is presented and research findings clearly indicate that such a new forecasting approach may cover a variety of possible causative models and track inevitable uncertainties down when traditional statistical least-squares regression methods are unable to handle such issues.

The use of system dynamics simulation in water resources management

TL;DR: It is argued that system dynamics combined with stakeholder involvement provides an appropriate methodology to address dynamically complex problems in water resources management effectively.

A system dynamics model to facilitate public understanding of water management options in Las Vegas, Nevada

TL;DR: The process of building a strategic-level system dynamics model using the case of water management in Las Vegas, Nevada is illustrated and the potential of this kind of interactive model to stimulate stakeholder interest in the structure of the system, engage participant interest more deeply, and build stakeholder understanding of the basis for management decisions is discussed.

Determining the Main Factors in Declining the Urmia Lake Level by Using System Dynamics Modeling

TL;DR: In this paper, a simulation model based on system dynamics method was developed for the Urmia Lake basin to estimate the lake's level and the results showed that changes in inflows due to the climate change and overuse of surface water resources is the main factor for 65% of the effect, constructing four dams is responsible for 25% and less precipitation on lake has 10% effect on decreasing the lake’s level in the recent years.
