Network location models have been used extensively for siting public and private facilities In this paper, we investigate a model that simultaneously optimizes facility locations and the design of the underlying transportation network Motivated by the simple observation that changing the network topology is often more cost-effective than adding facilities to improve service levels, the model has a number of applications in regional planning, distribution, energy management, and other areas The model generalizes the classical simple plant location problem We show how the model can be solved effectively We then use the model to analyze two potential transportation planning scenarios The fundamental question of resource allocation between facilities and links is investigated, and a detailed sensitivity analysis provides insight into the model's usefulness for aiding budgeting and planning decisions We conclude by identifying promising research directionsread more

Incorporating inventory control decisions into a strategic distribution network design model with stochastic demand
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a simultaneous approach to incorporate inventory control decisions, such as economic order quantity and safety stock decisions, into typical facility location models, which are used to solve the distribution network design problem.

Capacitated facility location/network design problems
Sanjay Melkote,Mark S. Daskin +1 more
TL;DR: A combined facility location/network design problem in which facilities have constraining capacities on the amount of demand they can serve is introduced, and a mixed integer programming formulation of the problem is presented to strengthen its LP relaxation.

Credibility-based fuzzy mathematical programming model for green logistics design under uncertainty
TL;DR: A bi-objective credibility-based fuzzy mathematical programming model for designing the strategic configuration of a green logistics network under uncertain conditions aims to minimize the environmental impacts and the total costs of network establishment simultaneously for the sake of providing a sensible balance between them.

The location of emergency service facilities
TL;DR: In this paper, the location of emergency facilities is viewed as a set covering problem with equal costs in the objective, where sets are composed of the potential facility points within a specified time or
