TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed understanding of the sweep flocculation mechanism is provided, especially with regard to the role of charge neutralization and hydroxide precipitation. But the results can be reasonably well explained in terms of established ideas, and there are also some uncertainties regarding the action of pre-hydrolysed coagulants.

The effect of time on the weathering of silicate minerals: why do weathering rates differ in the laboratory and field?

TL;DR: In this article, the correlation between decreasing reaction rates of silicate minerals and increasing duration of chemical weathering was investigated for both experimental and field conditions, and it was shown that intrinsic surface area, which increases with the duration of weathering, was responsible for a third of the exponential decrease in the weathering rate.

Ion binding to natural organic matter : competition, heterogeneity, stoichiometry and thermodynamic consistency

TL;DR: The NICCA-Donnan model as mentioned in this paper is a semi-empirical model that is similar to the NICA-donnan model except that it introduces an additional degree of scaling that ensures thermodynamic consistency and allows for variable stoichiometry of binding, which implicitly accounts for the large degree of chemical heterogeneity of humic particles.
