Abstract

Compendium of the Foundations of Classical Statistical Physics

Jos Uffink
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of the work of Maxwell, Boltzmann and Gibbs in statistical physics, and the problems and objections to which their work gave rise, and review some modern approaches to (i) equilibrium statistical mechanics, such as ergodic theory and the theory of the thermodynamic limit; and (ii) non-equilibrium statistical mechanics as provided by Lanford's work, the so-called Bogolyubov-Born-Green-Kirkwood-Yvon approach, and stochastic approaches such as coarse-graining and
Journal ArticleDOI

Ergodic theorem, ergodic theory, and statistical mechanics

TL;DR: This perspective highlights the mean ergodic theorem established by John von Neumann and the pointwise ergodik theorems established by George Birkhoff, proofs of which were published nearly simultaneously in PNAS in 1931 and 1932.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transport properties of the Lorentz gas: Fourier's law

TL;DR: In this paper, the stationary nonequilibrium (heat transporting) states of the Lorentz gas were investigated by imposing stochastic boundary conditions at the top and bottom of Λ.
MonographDOI

Finitary probabilistic methods in econophysics

TL;DR: The Zipf-Simon-Yule process index as discussed by the authors is a measure of the probability of an event in a stochastic process. But it is not a deterministic model.
Reference EntryDOI

Fundamental Symmetries and Symmetry Violations from High Resolution Spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduce the seven fundamental symmetries of physics in relation to the group of the molecular Hamiltonian and the current standard model of particle physics (SMPP).

Über die von der molekularkinetischen Theorie der Wärme geforderte Bewegung von in ruhenden Flüssigkeiten suspendierten Teilchen

Albert Einstein
- 01 Jan 1905 -
TL;DR: In el marco del Proyecto subvencionado by the Fundación Antorchas (FAN) as discussed by the authors, el material was digitalizado, e.g., en la Biblioteca del Departamento de Fisica de la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata.

On the Dynamical Theory of Gases

TL;DR: The theory of transport processes in gases, such as diffusion, heat conduction, and viscosity, is developed on the assumption that the molecules behave like point-centres of force as mentioned in this paper.
