TLDR
A retrospective study of canine mammary neoplasms derived from 3 different populations of dogs found that more carcinomas were seen among neutered than intact females except in the closed beagle colony where carcinoma was the most frequent neoplasm in the exclusively intact female population.

lo%, I<RONBERGER47 12 o/,sTICKER71 44%, P0PPENSIEKfi4 14%, and DORN, et aLz7 13%. Excluding the unusually high figures (over 40'2,) the average figure for frequency of mammary tumors among all tumors of dogs in both sexes is 16%). Relative frequency will indicate the likelihood of a dog having a particular type of neoplasm, but population-at-risk denominators are required for calculation of incidence rates that indicate the risk of developing a neoplasm in the general population. The only published article containing incidence data for canine mammary neoplasia reported an annual rate of 198.8 cases per 100,000 female dogs28.

Pathology of tumours

TL;DR: The inclusion of a chapter on treatment is unusual in a volume of this type, but it is not altogether out-of-place, and a correlation of pathology and therapeutics enables the student more readily to grasp the general principles of both these branches of medicine.
