TLDR
The use of narrative theory is suggested as a means to a detailed deconstruction or engineering of a collaborative design process, and an analytical device for the in depth exploration of the design space.Abstract:
Narrative theory or narratology is the systematic study of narrative and narrative structure [3]. It provides the necessary theoretical tools that can help scrutinize the various ways in which narrative is formed and is deciphered by an audience. In this paper, we suggest the use of narrative theory as: (a) a means to a detailed deconstruction or engineering of a collaborative design process, and (b) an analytical device for the in depth exploration of the design space.read more

Fictional characters in participatory design sessions: Introducing the design alter egos technique
TL;DR: A novel approach to using fictional characters in collaborative design of educational software with students, one that asks the participants for the formation and use of their own fictional characters - the term ''design alter egos'' - as a means to eliciting requirements and design ideas.

The contested privileging of zero carbon: plausibility, persuasiveness and professionalism
Stuart D. Green,Natalya Sergeeva +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, it is argued that design is an inherently social process which continues throughout a building's lifecycle, and that designers seek to accommodate zero-carbon targets alongside a multiple of other priorities.
Narrative Imagination: a Design Imperative
TL;DR: In this article, a design education intervention is described where the focus of activity is on developing a narrative approach within a three-dimensional design module and the narrative is used as the vehicle to stimulate and manage this imagination.

Hamlet on the Holodeck: The Future of Narrative in Cyberspace
TL;DR: In "Hamlet on the Holodeck" as discussed by the authors, a world in which Homer's "Iyre" and Gutenberg's printing press have given way to virtual reality environments like the "Star Trek" ® holodeck, Murray analyzes the state of "immersion" of participating in a text to such an extent that you literally get lost in a story and obliterate the outside world from your awareness.

Theatre of the Oppressed
TL;DR: As illiteracy has been shown to be a weapon of the ruling class, so Augusto Boal as discussed by the authors showed that theatre can be used as a weapon not only of bourgeois control but also of revolution.
