Suggestions for a clinical treatment for patellofemoral pain based on current research and theory are presented.
Abstract
© 2004 Human Kinetics • ATT 9(3), pp. 66-71 Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is arguably one of the most frustrating musculoskeletal conditions a certified athletic trainer/therapist faces. Many articles have been written about the causes and treatment of PFPS, and perhaps this plethora of information adds to the frustration clinicians feel when attempting to choose from a variety of treatment options. This article presents suggestions for a clinical treatment for patellofemoral pain based on current research and theory.

Knee-Extension Exercise’s Lack of Immediate Effect on Maximal Voluntary Quadriceps Torque and Activation in Individuals With Anterior Knee Pain

TL;DR: WB and NWB knee-extension exercises did not acutely change quadriceps torque output or activation and it may be necessary to perform exercises over a number of sessions and incorporate other disinhibitory interventions (eg, cryotherapy) to observe acute changes in quad riceps torque and activation.

Activation of Knee Muscles on Various Decline Boards and Postures During Single Leg Decline Squat Exercise

TL;DR: This study was designed to identify the effect of various decline boards and postures of lower extremities on surface electromyographic (EMG) activity of knee muscles during isometric single-leg decline squat exercises.

Biomechanical considerations in patellofemoral joint rehabilitation

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that patients with patello femoral joint arthritis may tolerate rehabilitation with leg press exercise better than with leg extension exercise in functional ranges of motion because of lower patel lofemoral joint stresses.
