Cyclic fatigue testing of nickel-titanium endodontic instruments.

TLDR
This study supports engineering concepts of cyclic fatigue failure and suggests that standardized fatigue tests of nickel-titanium rotary instruments should include dynamic operation in a flexed state and the effect of the radius of curvature as an independent variable should be considered when evaluating studies of root canal instrumentation.

Current Challenges and Concepts in the Preparation of Root Canal Systems: A Review

TL;DR: This review attempts to identify factors that influence shaping outcomes with nickel-titanium rotary instruments, such as preoperative root-canal anatomy and instrument tip design, and implications of various working length definitions and desired apical widths.

Defects in Rotary Nickel-Titanium Files After Clinical Use

TL;DR: The results indicated that torsional failure, which may be caused by using too much apical force during instrumentation, occurred more frequently than flexural fatigue, which might result from use in curved canals.

A comparison of canal preparations in straight and curved root canals

TL;DR: Extracted human single-rooted permanent teeth were classified according to degree of root curvature and an examination of cross sections revealed that straight canals were much more readily prepared round than were curved canals.

An initial investigation of the bending and torsional properties of nitinol root canal files

TL;DR: The Nitinol files were found to have two to three times more elastic flexibility in bending and torsion, as well as superior resistance to torsional fracture, compared with size #15 stainless steel files manufactured by the same process.
