Abstract
This paper proposes the design of high performance wide-bandwidth antenna for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) system, which are principally used in mining applications. Antennas having a large band-width and a clean radiated response are needed to attain depth resolution of the target. The main purpose is design the antenna for frequency range should be from 200MHZ-800 MHZ and gain 5dB. We have designed the antenna for drawing out characteristics of agricultural soil. This paper propose bow-tie slot antenna for GPR system using FR-4(1.6mm thick) PCB substrate is used. Concept of aluminum back cavity is referred for radiation pattern movement only in one direction and intensify the gain of antenna. By using PVC pipes antenna and aluminium cavity is affixed. Designing is done using Ansoft HFSS 18.0 software package. We have designed both Transmitter & Receiver Part for proposed antenna and also observed the combined effect by maintaining proper distance ($\lambda$/2)between the two antennas.

Ground Penetrating Radar

TL;DR: Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a tool for indirectly looking at underground objects (such as graves, gravel and sand layers, and other underground structures) using radio waves, which have a longer wavelength than x-rays.

Design of a shielded antenna system for ground penetrating radar applications

TL;DR: A practical design guidance of a wide band shielded GPR antenna used in a GPR system working at 400MHz center frequency shows that with properly designed shielding and absorbing materials, the bow-tie antenna with shield performs as desired.
