This article presents the reception of modern Catalan literature in France through the analysis a particular case: the reviews that the writer Marcel Brion wrote on catalan letters from the year 1925 to 1936 in the famous literary magazine Les Nouvelles Litteraires. Brion was perfectly aware of the different cultural trends in Catalonia and in reviews on writers such as Carles Riba, Francesc Trabal, Josep Lopez-Pico or Joan Estelrich he not only provided sharp insights on their work, but offered a fragmented interpretation of modern Catalan literature as a whole, trying to explain to the French public its main characteristics, its canon and why it deserved a place of its own in the western interwar debate on modernist and avant-garde developments.
