TLDR
In this article, a contrast enhancement comprising a linear piecewise stretching is enhanced to adjust histogram of grey levels of the image within a bounded interval, defined by the minimum and maximum intensity values desired in the final image.
Abstract
The method involves filtering an image with a structuring element corresponding to a disk with a diameter approximately corresponding to a thickness of an eyelash. A structuring element corresponding to a disk having a radius corresponding to a minimum expected radius of a pupil in the image is opened. A contrast enhancement comprising a linear piecewise stretching is enhanced to adjust histogram of grey levels of the image within a bounded interval, defined by the minimum and maximum intensity values desired in the final image. An independent claim is also included for a system for recognizing an iris of an eye.

Multimodal ocular biometric system

TL;DR: In this paper, a multimodal biometric identification system was proposed to capture and process images of both the iris and the retina for biometric recognition. But the system is limited to using data from only the retina from a single eye.

Normalized image feature processing

TL;DR: In this article, a method of processing an image including the steps of locating within the image the position of at least one predetermined feature, extracting from the image data representing each feature, and calculating for each feature a feature vector representing the position in an N-dimensional space, such space being defined by a plurality of reference vectors each of which is an eigenvector of a training set of like features in which the image of each feature is modified to normalize the shape of the feature, which step is carried out before calculating the corresponding feature vector.

Red-eye removal using color image processing

TL;DR: In this article, a redness mask is computed by calculating the colorimetric distance, in an approximately perceptually linear color space, between a prototypical reference red eye color and each pixel of the image, or a selected portion thereof, containing the red eye.

Evaluation of the definition of an eye iris image

TL;DR: In this article, a method and a system for evaluating the definition of the image of an eye iris or the like, including approximately localizing the pupil in the image, defining, from the approximate position of the pupil, an examination window centered on this position, and applying a gradient accumulation operation to the luminance values of the pixels of the examination window, the running total being proportional to the definition score of an image.
