Abstract
This paper provides a framework for integrating the many conceptions of criterion-referenced testing. The categories of the scheme are illustrated by examples of criterion-referenced tests that have been developed between the years 1864 and 1978. The scheme provides one way to show how various conceptualizations of criterion-referenced testing are both similar to and different from each other.
