TLDR
In this paper, the seizure resistance of several cast aluminium base alloys has been examined using a standard Hohman Wear Tester, and it was shown that a slight increase in the solute content or the hardness of the primary α-phase leads to a considerable increase in seizure resistance.

Wear and seizure of binary Al---Si alloys

TL;DR: In this article, the wear and seizure behaviour of binary Al-Si alloys containing up to 23% Si was investigated in sliding against a hard steel counterface by continuous loading experiments carried out in a pin-on-disc machine.
Journal ArticleDOI

The tribological characteristics of A356.2Al alloy/Gr(p) composites

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of variations in graphite particulate content under different normal loading and sliding speed on the wear rate and electrical contact resistance was studied in an aluminum alloy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wear in Al-Si alloys under dry sliding conditions

K. Mohammed Jasim, +1 more
- 01 Sep 1987 -
TL;DR: In this article, the wear behavior and wear rates have been found to be a function of silicon content and not dependent on the initial structure or the distribution of the silicon phase, and the results obtained have been used to propose a mechanism of metal removal during wear in Al-Si alloys.
Journal ArticleDOI

The UPAL process: a direct method of preparing cast aluminium alloy-graphite particle composites

TL;DR: In this paper, a direct method of preparing cast aluminium alloy-graphite particle composites using uncoated graphite particles is reported, and the method consists of introducing and dispersing un-coated but suitably pretreated graphite particle in aluminium alloy melts, and casting the resulting composite melts in suitable permanent moulds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wear resistance of cast graphitic aluminium alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, wear rates of cast graphitic aluminium-silicon-nickel alloys were lower than those of pure Al, Al-Si and AlSi-Ni alloys especially above pressures of 0.02 kg/mm2.

Theory and Practice of Lubrication for Engineers

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental concepts of lubrication theory needed to properly cope with friction and wear problems are comprehensively presented, through multiple numerical examples, how solutions are achieved, and discusses further applications using these concepts.
