TLDR
The reported studies attempted to evaluate the influence of stimulus set size on the efficiency of detection of information through the analysis of GSR responses and suggest that the subject responds to the stimuli by dividing them into a single relevant stimulus and a reject category containing all others.
Abstract
The reported studies attempted to evaluate the influence of stimulus set size on the efficiency of detection of information through the analysis of GSR responses. Three stimulus set size variations of a standard card detection test were employed. No significant reduction in absolute detection scores was found as the number of cards was increased, and an analysis based on the Theory of Signal Detection also suggested better autonomic discrimination as the stimulus set size increased. The results suggest that the subject responds to the stimuli by dividing them into a single relevant stimulus and a reject category containing all others.

Verbal and Nonverbal Communication of Deception

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a primarily psychological point of view and a relatively microanalysis of the verbal and nonverbal exchange between the deceiver and the lie detector, and explore methodological issues, channel effects in the detection of deception and other factors affecting the accuracy of lie detection.

Autonomic recognition of names and faces in prosopagnosia: A neuropsychological application of the guilty knowledge test

TL;DR: Electrodermal responses indicated far more accurate discrimination between correct and incorrect names, suggesting that the patient "recognized" facial identity at the psychophysiological level.

The validity of psychophysiological detection of information with the Guilty Knowledge Test: a meta-analytic review.

TL;DR: A meta-analysis based on 169 conditions, gathered from 80 laboratory studies, to estimate the validity of the Guilty Knowledge Test with the electrodermal measure found that a set of 10 studies that best approximated applications of the GKT under optimal conditions produced an average effect size of 3.12.

Standardization Within Individuals: A Simple Method to Neutralize Individual Differences in Skin Conductance

TL;DR: A method to neutralize individual differences in skin conductance responsivity is suggested, a standardization of the responses within individuals, based on data from two experiments which evaluated differences between electrodermal responses to relevant and neutral stimuli in information detection tasks.

Lying takes time: A meta-analysis on reaction time measures of deception.

TL;DR: A meta-analysis of 114 studies using computerized RT paradigms to assess the cognitive cost of lying revealed a large standardized RT difference, even after correction for publication bias, with a large heterogeneity amongst effect sizes.

Decision processes in perception.

TL;DR: A brief review of the theory of statistical decision is reviewed and a description of the elements of the theories appropriate to human observers is presented, including a quantitative measure of the criterion.
