This paper presents a scheme to measure the error rate of the communication system in the presence of Adjacent Channel Interference using frequency domain signal processing. Also studied is the performance of M-PSK and M-QAM signals received in the presence of Adjacent Channel Interference. The model of the system considers interfering signals of the same modulation format placed symmetrically around the main channel, rectangular pulse shaping, randomized phase and amplitude of the transmitted signals and timing misalignment between the channels. Expression for bit error rate corresponding to the approximate probability density function of the received signal is obtained. Curves of bit error rate as a function of order of modulation and distance between the channels are presented.

Statistical Methods for Research Workers

As a result of an extensive survey of the literature, a large number of distribution-free statistical tests are examined. Tests are grouped together primarily according to general type of mathematical derivation or type of statistical \"information\" used in'conducting the test. Each of the more important tests is treated under the headings: Rationale, Null Hypothesis, Assumptions, Treatment of Ties, Efficiency, Application, Discussion, Tables, and Sources. Derivations are given and mathematical interrelationships among the tests are indicated. Strengths and weaknesses of individual tests, and of distribution-free tests as a class compared to parametric tests, are discussed.

The error rate is an important measure of performance in digital communications system, since it gives an indication of the quality of the received information. This paper provides a tutorial overview of methods of error monitoring under four broad classifications, namely, test sequences, parameter measurements, violation detection, and pseudo-error monitoring. A brief discussion of several approaches towards performance monitoring and the definition of error rate parameters is also given. The various methods are described and compared; but, no one monitor is singled out as the "best" since the final choice depends largely on the specific requirements of a given application.
