TLDR
In this article, a comparative study reveals significant disparities among the various codal estimates of the design moments, given the same basic wind speed and terrain condition, and quantitatively assess the relative accuracy of these differing estimates with reference to rigorous stochastic dynamic analyses.

Interference effects on aeroelastic responses and design wind loads of twin high-rise reinforced concrete chimneys

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the aeroelastic responses and design wind loads of twin high-rise reinforced concrete chimneys through wind tunnel tests with L/D varying from 2 to 6 (L being the center-to-center spacing and D being the mean diameter).
Journal ArticleDOI

Uncertainties in codal recommendations for across-wind load analysis of R/C chimneys

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the prevailing international codal procedures to evaluate the across-wind response of R/C chimneys and examined the disparities in the codal estimates of across wind moments as well as the load factor specifications from a reliability viewpoint.
Journal ArticleDOI

Wind load analysis of tall chimneys with piled raft foundation considering the flexibility of soil

TL;DR: In this paper, a parametric analysis of tall reinforced concrete chimneys with piled raft foundation subjected to wind loads was carried out using three-dimensional finite element technique based on the direct method of SSI.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction on Raft of Piled Raft Foundation of Chimneys

TL;DR: Numerical analysis of soil-structure-interaction (SSI) of tall reinforced concrete chimneys with piled raft foundation subjected to El Centro ground motion (1940) using finite element method finds that the response in the raft depends on the different parameters of chimney, foundation, and soil.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermal analysis of reinforced concrete chimneys with fiberglass plastic liners in uncontrolled fires

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple method to calculate fire duration and flue gas temperatures for reinforced concrete (RC) chimneys with fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) liners based on experimentally determined burning characteristics of the liner material was presented.

The spectrum of horizontal gustiness near the ground in high winds

TL;DR: In this article, a study of about 70 spectra of the horizontal components of gustiness in strong winds is described, and it appears that the cross-spectra can be expressed as a simple function of the ratio of the vertical separation to the wavelength, no dependence on height being detectable.
