The purpose of t h i s s tudy was t o test the emotional a t t i t u d e s of adolescent ch i ld ren i n learning ass i s t ance cen t res t o discover t h e i r perceptions of f ee l ing toward various meahers of t h e i r f ami l i e s and to es t imate t h e i r perceptions of the family member's r ec ip roca l regard f o r them. For the purpose of t h i s s tudy, a ch i ld with a learning d i s a b i l i t y was opera t ionaly defined a s a c h i l d who was i n a learning a s s i s t a n c e centre. The technique employed i n the present inves t iga t ion , ca l l ed the Family Relat ions Tes t , i s a semi-project ive test based on psychoanalytic theory which gives ob jec t ive scores and which is reasonably r e l i a b l e and va l id . Since the re has been no research with the Family Relat ions Tes t on adolescent populations and due t o the dea r th of research on learning ass i s t ance cen t re populations, no d i r e c t i o n a l hypotheses were s t a t ed . The ob jec t ive of the study were: ( a ) t o provide add i t iona l comparative d a t a t o a i d i n c l i n i c a l i n t e r p r e t a t i o n of the t e s t r e s u l t s with adolescent populat ions; (b) t o inves t iga te the a b i l i t y of the Family Relat ions T e s t t o d iscr iminate d i f ferences i n perceived family r e l a t ionsh ips of chi ldren drawn from a learning ass i s t ance cen t re population; (c) t o advance t e n t a t i v e i n t e r p r e t a t i o n s of d i f f e rences i n the responses wi th in t h i s group and (d) t o s t imula te f u r t h e r research. The r e s u l t s indicated t h a t both learning ass i s t ance cen t re boys and g i r l s have p o s i t i v e f ee l ings toward t h e i r mothers and they perceive he r a s being a warm and a f f e c t i o n a t e person.
