Horse dung germinable seed content in relation to plant species abundance, diet composition and seed characteristics

TLDR
The results emphasise the importance of large herbivores as potentially strong seed dispersal vectors and the possible role of endozoochory for conservation of plant diversity in grassland is concerned.About:

Do tourists disperse weed seed? A global review of unintentional human-mediated terrestrial seed dispersal on clothing, vehicles and horses
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed published and unpublished data on seed dispersal via clothing, vehicles (cars) and in/on horses and donkeys, all of which can be used by tourists.

Germination success of temperate grassland species after passage through ungulate and rabbit guts
TL;DR: The loss of seed germinability after gut passage calls into question the ecological significance of endozoochory, although the costs of other dispersal mechanisms remain to be tested.

TL;DR: This work has shown that zoochory can be an efficient mechanism for plants to colonize new patches of potentially suitable habitat and predicted that seed dispersal by ungu ...

Endozoochory by free-ranging, large herbivores: Ecological correlates and perspectives for restoration
TL;DR: Seed dispersal via ingestion and defecation by large herbivores provides a possible aid for ecological restoration of plant communities, by connecting source communities of target species with habitat restoration sites, and Insight into the factors determining internal seed dispersal could improve the management of grazed ecosystems.

Why are small seeds dispersed through animal guts: large numbers or seed size per se?
Hans Henrik Bruun,Peter Poschlod +1 more
TL;DR: It is found that seeds were ingested and passed through the bovine intestinal tract in proportion to the numbers produced per unit area in the grazed vegetation, and no relationship could be found between endozoochorous dispersal potential and seed attributes such as seed mass, seed shape (roundness), and thickness of the seed coat.

Effects of herbivores on grassland plant diversity.
Han Olff,Mark E. Ritchie +1 more
TL;DR: The role of herbivores in controlling plant species richness is a critical issue in the conservation and management of grassland biodiversity and recent syntheses and models suggest that herbivore effects on plant diversity should vary across environmental gradients of soil fertility and precipitation.
