Characteristics of a series of high speed hard chine planing hulls - part 1: performance in calm water

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental investigation into the performance of high speed hard chine planing hulls in irregular waves has been conducted and a series of models representative of current design practice was developed and tested experimentally Measurements of the rigid body motions and accelerations were made at three speeds in order to assess the influence of fundamental design parameters on the seakeeping performance of the hulls and human factors performance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface wave contours associated with the forebody wake of stepped planing hulls

TL;DR: In this article, the longitudinal surface wake profiles of prismatic hulls having deadrise angles of 10 o, 20 o and 30 o were quantitatively defined for an expected range of variations in trim angle, speed coefficient, and loading coefficient typical for these hulls.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrodynamic analysis techniques for high-speed planing hulls

TL;DR: In this article, the existing techniques for analysis of high-speed planing hulls are reviewed and the strengths and limitations of these techniques will help researchers and engineers select the most appropriate method for optimal design and analysis of a hull.
Journal ArticleDOI

Resistance assessment of warped hullform

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of hard chine planing hull forms were developed at Department of Naval Architecture, University of Naples to evaluate the effect of deadrise angle variation along the hull length on hydrodynamic resistance and on seakeeping.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hydrodynamic assessment of planing hulls using overset grids

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used an overset grid system to numerically solve the flow around a planing hull and to understand the planing regime with this invaluable tool, and the results obtained by overset grids were used to calculate the resistance components of a planed hull in a wide Froude number range.

Resistance tests of a systematic series of planing hull forms

TL;DR: Clement as mentioned in this paper presented the results of resistance tests of five planning boat models of different length-beam ratio, each model was tested at a number of loads and LCG Locations.
