TLDR
In this paper, the authors analyzed the relationship between care and economy from a perspective of economic theory and found that care is an important source of comfort and support in people's daily lives.Abstract:
Care is an important source of comfort and support in people’s daily lives. Everyone, on different stages of life, cared for or needed to be care for. People would not be able to survive without care. Therefore it is crucial that care starts to be recognized as a sign ifica t economic issue. Care is important for the e conomy, which depends on care services and would not be abl e not only to develop but even to operate without i t. On the other hand economic relations influence the quantit y and quality of care provided in society. Care and economy are therefore interconnected. In the paper the rela tions between care and economy are analyzed from th e perspective of economic theory. First the definitio of care is provided and compared with the concept of work. Than the analysis turns to economic theory and the place of care in economic policy. Theoretical consi derations undertaken in the article are illustrated by data s howing the engagement of people, especially women, in caring activities. Paper also provides some policy prescri ptions that are, according to the author, crucial f or overcoming contemporarily developing care crises.read more
