Abstract
The fact that the 21st century opened with a war against Iraq, which was counterattacked by terrorist attacks, plunges us into a world loaded with disquiet and anguish. In the present paper we will make reference to the "Security Strategy for the 21st century" carried out by the US government in 1997, and its influence on Iraq. Applying the principles of such document led the US to act unilaterally, justifying war as inevitable, moving from hypocrisy to lying, disregarding the legitimate rights of peoples and introducing insecurity in their own territory by feeding international terrorism. It is to such phenomenon that the Middle East responds by hitting international power symbols and those supporting them.
