TLDR
Model-based sonification is presented as a concept to design auditory displays and two designs are described: particle trajectories in a "data potential" is a sonification model to reveal information about the clustering of vectorial data.Abstract:
Sonification is the use of non-speech audio to convey information. We are developing tools for interactive data exploration, which make use of sonification for data presentation. In this paper, model-based sonification is presented as a concept to design auditory displays. Two designs are described: (1) particle trajectories in a "data potential" is a sonification model to reveal information about the clustering of vectorial data and (2) "data-sonograms" is a sonification for data from a classification problem to reveal information about the mixing of distinct classes.read more

Taxonomy and definitions for sonification and auditory display
TL;DR: A new definition for sonification and auditory display is introduced that emphasizes the necessary and sufficient conditions for organized sound to be called sonification, and suggests a taxonomy, and discusses the relation between visualization and sonification.

TL;DR: Results confirm two hypotheses formulated in a preliminary study: pitch is by far the most used auditory dimension in sonification applications, and spatial auditory dimensions are almost exclusively used to sonify kinematic quantities.

Shoogle: excitatory multimodal interaction on mobile devices
TL;DR: Shoogle is a novel, intuitive interface for sensing data withina mobile device, such as presence and properties of text messages or remaining resources, based around active exploration.
Multimodal feedback for tilt controlled speed dependent automatic zooming
TL;DR: It is shown that browsing and targeting can be facilitated by using a model-based sonification approach to generate audio feedback about document structure, in a tilt-controlled SDAZ interface, for a text browser on a Pocket PC instrumented with an accelerometer and headset.

Physical Modeling Using Digital Waveguides
TL;DR: Historically, physical models have led to prohibitively expensive synthesis algorithms, and commercially available synthesizers do not yet appear to make use of them, but as computers become faster and cheaper, and as algorithms based on physical models become more e cient, the authors may expect to hear more from them.
