Method and device for text data compression

TLDR
In this paper, a method and device for compressing a text string into a compressed string, taking into account case sensitivity of the text string, is presented, which can be performed in lossy mode or lossless mode.
Abstract
A method and device for compressing a text string into a compressed string, taking into account case sensitivity of the text string. Compression can be performed in lossy mode or lossless mode. In lossy mode, the text string is parsed to determine its case sensitivity so that a search for finding a match for the text string in a reference source is based on the case sensitivity. Alternatively, the case configuration of the characters in the text string is transformed into a target case, and a case-sensitive search is performed to find a match for the case-transformed text string. In lossless mode, a case-insensitive search is performed for finding a match for the text string regardless of its case sensitivity, and a case-info-element is attached to the compressed string so that the compressed string can be reconstructed based on the case-info-element.

Dictionary-based order-preserving string compression for main memory column stores

TL;DR: This paper proposes new data structures that efficiently support an order-preserving dictionary compression for (variablelength) string attributes with a large domain size that is likely to change over time and introduces a novel indexing approach that provides efficient access paths to such a dictionary while compressing the index data.

Network characteristic-based compression of network traffic

TL;DR: In this article, a network optimization device identifies a selected compression dictionary from among a number of compression dictionaries based on the received stream of data and a receiving network device may be notified regarding the selected dictionary.

Method, communications node, and memory for dynamic dictionary updating and optimization for compression and decompression of messages

TL;DR: In this paper, a method, communications node, and memory for updating and respectively storing a dynamic dictionary for use in text-based protocol message compression/decompression was proposed, where the compression module concatenates the matching successive sequences from the message and copies the resulting combined expression into a dynamic dictionaries, thus creating a longer expression to be used in subsequent message compression and decompression.

Automatically collecting and compressing style attributes within a web document

TL;DR: In this article, a style compressor for improving compression of a web document collects all the style attributes referenced by elements of the web document into a central style repository and replaces each reference by each of the elements with a class attribute assigned in the central style repositories to the replaced style attributes.

Efficient bit-exact lossless image coding residual system

Gary Demos
TL;DR: In this paper, a method for bit-exact lossless compression coding of still and moving images is presented, where an original image is encoded to produce a lossy compressed image, and a sorted list of bin values to which the lossy image is compared to generate output from which the original image can be losslessly reconstructed.

A universal algorithm for sequential data compression

TL;DR: The compression ratio achieved by the proposed universal code uniformly approaches the lower bounds on the compression ratios attainable by block-to-variable codes and variable- to-block codes designed to match a completely specified source.

Compression of individual sequences via variable-rate coding

TL;DR: The proposed concept of compressibility is shown to play a role analogous to that of entropy in classical information theory where one deals with probabilistic ensembles of sequences rather than with individual sequences.

Data compression/decompression system

TL;DR: In this article, a data compression method identifier selectively applies an appropriate data decompressor over sub-portions of a compressed data stream, where the controller selectively forwards data compressed with the most efficient data compressor over subsets of a data stream.
