Multi-phase countercurrent reactor process and apparatus

TLDR
In this article, a countercurrent continuous catalytic reactor and process for treating a liquid phase, such as oil, with a gaseous reactant is described, where a level detector 30 is disposed in a froth zone above the catalyst bed 12 for detecting level of a mixed gas-liquid froth.
Abstract
A countercurrent continuous catalytic reactor and process for treating a liquid phase, such as oil, with a gaseous reactant. An enclosed reactor shell 10 contains a fixed porous bed 12 of solid catalyst, an upper liquid inlet 14 for introducing a stream of liquid substantially above the catalyst bed 12 for downward gravity flow through the bed, and a lower liquid outlet 16 for withdrawing treated liquid from the reactor shell 10. A gaseous reactant is dispersed through the liquid phase in intimate contact with the solid catalyst, and withdrawn above the catalyst bed 12. A level detector 30 is disposed in a froth zone above the catalyst bed 12 for detecting level of a mixed gas-liquid froth. Fluid handling control 32 responsive to a level signal controls fluid stream flow for regulating froth level above the catalyst bed 12.

Transaxial compression technique for sound velocity estimation

TL;DR: In this article, an improved ultrasonic pulse-echo method and apparatus that has particular application in estimating sound velocity in organic tissue is disclosed, which employs a standard transducer or transducers containing device which is translated transaxially, thereby compressing or displacing a proximal region of a target body (15) in small known increments.

Method and apparatus for the continuous separation and discharge of solid catalysts and products for fischer-tropsch synthesis reactions

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a continuous separation and discharge apparatus for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reactions involving the conversion of synthetic gas into synthetic oil, by which products of the FischerTropsh synthesis including wax, as a long-chain hydrocarbon, can be stably obtained by continuously separating the products from a slurry comprising solid catalyst particles and the products using periodic pulses of a feeding gas and discharging the products through a lower portion of a reactor.

Multi-phase countercurrent reactor system

TL;DR: In this paper, a countercurrent continuous catalytic reactor system for treating a liquid phase, such as oil, with a gaseous reactant is described. But the level detector apparatus is disposed in a froth zone above the catalyst bed for detecting level of a mixed gas-liquid froth.
