Abstract
The aim of this reception study is to understand the interpretation ways of gender relations by 24 dominant class women in different generations according to the primetime telenovelas, in the Brazilian context. The study questions were formulated based on love and sexual relationships, present both in the content aired and in the informers appropriations. From the Mediations Theory by Martin-Barbero, we analyzed the telenovela readings by the female audience from their experiences (sociability). The results show that most of the interviewees contest against traditional gender roles but have difficulty to admit the modern behaviors for themselves because they cannot perform them.
