TLDR
In this article, it was proved that a so-called novel nonlinear optical glycine barium nitrate potassium nitrate single crystal grown by slow evaporation solution growth technique by Ravishankar et al. (Optik, 2013) is actually the well-known γ-glycine crystal.

Synthesis, growth and characterization of γ-glycine – A promising material for optical applications

TL;DR: In this article, a single crystal X-ray diffraction (HRXRD) measurement reveals the good crystalline perfection and the linear refractive index estimated from the UV-Vis spectral data were fitted with Sellmeier's equation and the refractive ratio was found to be constant (n 2.55) over a wide range of wavelength.

On the existence of ‘thiourea urea magnesium chloride’ and ‘urea thiourea sodium chloride’

TL;DR: Gopinath et al. as discussed by the authors proved that pure thiourea is formed due to fractional crystallization, in view of no chemical reaction among the reagents employed for crystal growth.

Comment on “A Study on Structural, Optical, Mechanical and Ferroelectric Properties of Tri-Glycine Barium Nitrate Single Crystals”

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that the tri-glycine barium nitrate crystal reported by R. Ezhil Vizhi and D. Rajan Babu is not a new ferroelectric but a dubious crystal.

Comment on the paper “Growth and characterization of organic nonlinear optical crystal: l-Valinium salicylate (LVS)”

TL;DR: The slow evaporation of an aqueous solution containing l -valine and salicylic acid results in the fractional crystallization of Salicyl acid and not a so-called "l -valinium salicylate".

Comment on "A Study on the Growth and Characterization of Zinc Sulphate Mono Hydrate Doped Glycine NLO Single Crystals"

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the zinc sulphate mono hydrate doped glycine NLO single crystal described by Sakuntala et al. is a dubious crystal.

Difficulties in the growth and characterization of non-linear optical materials: A case study of salts of amino acids

TL;DR: In this article, some frequent hazards and problems are addressed and observations of papers reporting amino acid compounds as supposedly new non-linear optical materials are made, as well as observations of articles reporting amino acids compounds as new NLO materials.

Glycine glycinium picrate--reinvestigation of the structure and vibrational spectra.

TL;DR: It was shown that crystals of diglycine picrate obtained from the solution containing equimolar quantities may contain picric acid as impurity, which is the reason for the previously reported observation of second harmonic generation in this centrosymmetric crystal.

Crystal structure analyses of some addition compounds of glycine

TL;DR: The crystal structure of three addition compounds of glycine was solved by single-crystal x-ray diffraction methods and refined to R values of 0.034, 0.058 and 0.677 A.
Journal ArticleDOI

Growth and characterization of glycine picrate single crystal.

TL;DR: Glycine picrate, an organic material, was synthesized and successfully grown by solution growth method and its optical properties were examined by UV-vis-NIR analysis, which shows that the crystal is transparent between the wavelengths 400 nm and 1000 nm.
