A tutorial review on process identification from step or relay feedback test

TL;DR: The process models with time delay mainly adopted for identification in the literature are presented with a classification on different response types, along with two specific categories for robust identification against load disturbance and the identification of multivariable or nonlinear processes.

Obtaining Controller Parameters for a New PI-PD Smith Predictor Using Autotuning

TL;DR: In this paper, a modified PI-PD Smith predictor is proposed to improve the control of processes with large time constants or an integrator or unstable plant transfer functions plus long dead-time for reference inputs and disturbance rejections.

IMC based automatic tuning method for PID controllers in a Smith predictor configuration

TL;DR: A new approach is presented based on relay autotuning of a plant to find parameters for its control using a Smith predictor, which has given improved results when compared with some previous approaches.

Improved Autotuning Using the Shape Factor from Relay Feedback

TL;DR: Simulation results clearly indicate that, by incorporating the shape information, improved autotuning can be achieved in a straightforward manner, and possible dead-time compensation and higher-order compensation can also be devised when necessary.

Improved cascade control structure for enhanced performance

TL;DR: In this paper, an improved cascade control structure and controller design based on standard forms is suggested to improve the performance of cascade control in the presence of disturbances, where the corrective action for disturbances does not begin until the controlled variable deviates from the set point.

Multiple-Input Describing Functions and Nonlinear System Design

TL;DR: The theory of automatic control has been advanced in important ways during recent years, particularly with respect to stability and optimal control, but these theories do not, however, lay to rest all questions of importance to the control engineer.
