Two examples of Direct-Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS/CDMA) communication systems with offset quadrature signals and smoother chip pulses than the rectangular pulse of the conventional Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (OQPSK) modulation are presented. The two systems use Minimum Shift Keying (MSK) and Sinusoidal Frequency Shift Keying (SFSK), which are continuous-phase modulation formats. It is shown that these two systems outperform OQPSK with regard to both bandwidth consumption and bit error probability. >read more

Noncoherent continuous-phase modulation for DS-CDMA
TL;DR: The combination of continuous phase modulation (CPM) with direct-sequence code-division multiple access (DS-CDMA) for multiuser transmission over the additive white Gaussian noise channel achieves high performance with very moderate complexity.

On random CDMA with constant envelope
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a random code-division multiple access (CDMA) with continuous-time constant envelope, which is compatible with linear CDMA and allows for standard methods of linear multiuser detection while avoiding phase jumps at all times.

Spectral efficiency of random CDMA with constant envelope modulation
Ralf Müller,Alexander Lampe +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the spectral efficiency of code-division multiple access with constant envelope modulation in the large system limit was studied. But the spectral performance of CDMA was not compared to the CDMA with continuous phase modulation.

Multiuser detection for continuous phase CDMA
TL;DR: In this article, linear multiuser detection for code-division multiple access (CDMA) with continuous-time constant envelope and continuous phase was studied. And the authors found that the restriction to continuous phase caused negligible degradation of multiusers efficiency when detected by means of linear multiiuser detectors.

BER performance of DS-CDMA communications for continuous phase modulation and various binary code families
TL;DR: It is shown that CPM signaling based systems outperform BPSK modulation for all scenarios considered and BER performance calculation of a DS-CDMA system with CPM modulation validate that analytical methodology.

Bit-to-bit error dependence in slotted DS/SSMA packet systems with random signature sequences
R.K. Morrow,James S. Lehnert +1 more
TL;DR: An improved Gaussian approximation to the probability of data bit error is performed and shows that if no error control exists in the desired packet or if block error control is used when multiple-access interference is high, the error dependence increases the average probability of packet success beyond that predicted by models which use independent bit errors.

Error Probabilities for Binary Direct-Sequence Spread-Spectrum Communications with Random Signature Sequences
TL;DR: An expression for the output of the receiver is obtained for the case of random signature sequences, and the corresponding characteristic function is determined to study the density function of the multiple-access interference and to determine arbitrarily tight upper and lower bounds on the average probability of error.

MSK and Offset QPSK Modulation
S. Gronemeyer,A. McBride +1 more
TL;DR: A Markov process representation is developed which is applicable to either the MSK or OK-QPSK waveform and is employed to illustrate the similarity between the modulation processes and to obtain the autocorrelations and power spectral densities of the two waveforms.
