Placing a computer system into a sleeping state

TLDR
In this article, a computer system enters or exits a sleeping state, such as the ACPI “S 1 ” state, in response to a sleep or wake event, and a PMI signal, when asserted, causes the processor to halt program execution.
Abstract
A computer system enters or exits a sleeping state, such as the ACPI “S 1 ” state, in response to a sleep or wake event. Upon detecting the sleep or wake event, a system component generates a sleep or wake signal that instructs the computer to enter or exit the sleeping state. This sleep or wake signal is of a type to which the computer's processor does not respond. Therefore, a PMI signal is asserted in response to the sleep or wake signal. The PMI signal, when asserted, causes the processor to halt program execution.

Method and apparatus for a zero voltage processor sleep state

TL;DR: In this article, a voltage regulator is coupled to a processor to provide an operating voltage to the processor during a transition to a zero voltage power management state for the processor, and the state variables associated with the processor may be saved to the dedicated cache memory.

Method and apparatus for controlling power management state transitions

TL;DR: In this article, an integrated circuit device, such as a processor, initiates a transition to a first power management state, and then receives a request to exit the first management state and, in response, exits the first powermanagement state at the highest of a reference operating voltage, and a current voltage.

Algorithm for non-volatile memory updates

TL;DR: In this article, a processor architecture and algorithms are provided which improve non-volatile memory updates and increase processor performance in successive generations of processors, including a software model consisting of two new firmware layers and the legacy 32 bit basic input output system (BIOS) firmware.

Handling of multiple compliant and non-compliant wake-up sources in a computer system

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method are disclosed for handling devices that assert a wake-up signal in an improper fashion, where the noncompliance may be determined by detecting a transition of the computer to a reduced power state, pausing for a predetermined delay, and sampling the wakeup signal to identify any asserted wakeup signals.

Method, system, and program for transmitting notification to an input/output device

TL;DR: In this article, a method, system, and program for sending notification to an Input/Output (I/O) device comprised of multiple components of an event from an originating device that transmits data to the I/O device.

ACPI sleep control

TL;DR: In this paper, a power management event signal POWER_PME and an SCI interrupt are used to detect the change in power supply state by the internal battery or the external power supply, and the current system state changes to another system state.

Method and apparatus for a computer power management function including selective sleep states

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a power saving feature in a computer system such as a desktop computer using the Windows™ operating system, which includes one or more "sleep" buttons which selectively reduce power consumption to subsystems based on the status of various consumer devices which share the subsystems with a computer function of the system.

Control of computer system wake/sleep transitions

TL;DR: In this article, a method to configure a device for remote management that is transparent to an advanced configuration and power interface (ACPI) operating system is described, which includes configuring a device in a computer system when a transition between power states is being effected by the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface operating system including the step of causing the computer system to enter a non-ACPI mode in response to the transition being effected.

Apparatus for controlled switching of a microcomputer to standby mode

TL;DR: In this paper, a voltage regulator connected to a microcomputer is switched from main power to standby power by a monitoring integrated circuit in response to a switch off by the control circuit after receiving a switchoff command, from an ignition switch, and only after the computer has been reset.
