Preventive thermographic diagnosis of historical buildings for consolidation

TLDR
In this article, the authors present the results of the study for the Church of Santa Maria ad Cryptas (XIII century), one of the most ancient buildings in the surroundings of L’Aquila and the best examples of Gothic art in Abruzzo, with the aim to evaluate the correspondence between the damage induced by the earthquake and the previous thermographic results, in order to validate the effectiveness of thermography and its role in preventive diagnosis.

An overview of corrosion defect characterization using active infrared thermography

TL;DR: In this paper, an overview on the applications of infrared thermography for the detection and characterisation of general metal loss in metallic materials is presented, which represents the advances of thermography applications specifically in metal loss/thickness variation measurement along the recent literature.
Journal ArticleDOI

Combined Use of Terrestrial Laser Scanning and IR Thermography Applied to a Historical Building

TL;DR: A methodology for combining the terrestrial laser scanning and the infrared thermal images is proposed, in order to obtain a reconnaissance of the conservation state of a historical building and outline the capabilities both to detect the anomalies and to improve the knowledge on health state of the masonry building.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of infrared thermography for the investigation of building envelopes: Advances and prospects

TL;DR: A detailed review of the previous studies investigating the abnormalities of building envelopes by IRT is presented in this paper, and the applications with measurement methods, analysis schemes and analysis types are classified to highlight the potential of IRT in inspection ofBuilding envelopes for providing energy efficient solutions.
Journal ArticleDOI

An infrared thermography passive approach to assess the effect of leakage points in buildings

TL;DR: In this article, an experimental campaign was conducted to assess the applicability of infrared thermography (IRT) to detect air leakage through the roller shutter handle and the window frame of a room.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantitative thermography for the estimation of the U-value: state of the art and a case study

TL;DR: In this article, an alternative approach based on infrared thermography (IRT) has been proposed for in situ measurements, which is non invasivity and the possibility of inspecting relatively large areas in real time.

Theory and Practice of Infrared Technology for Nondestructive Testing

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an active and passive approach to active thermography for nondestructive testing of infrared sensors and Optic Fundamentals using Matlab M-Scripts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Infrared thermography for building diagnostics

TL;DR: The use of thermal infrared (IR) imaging is a valuable tool for inspecting and performing non-destructive testing of building elements, detecting where and how energy is leaking from a building's envelope, collecting data for clarifying the operating conditions of hard to reach heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) installations, identifying problems with the electrical and mechanical installations under full-load operating conditions as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Application of infrared thermography to the non-destructive testing of concrete and masonry bridges

TL;DR: In this article, it is shown that even with the low ambient temperatures experienced in Europe it is possible to use infrared thermography to identify correctly known areas of delamination in a concrete bridge structure and also to investigate the internal structure of a masonry bridge.
Journal ArticleDOI

Applications of infrared thermography for the investigation of historic structures

TL;DR: In this article, an overview of infrared thermography and its applications relating to the investigation of historic structures is presented. But this work is limited to the case of buildings and does not cover the application of non-destructive testing and evaluation on the materials and structures.
Journal ArticleDOI

Monitoring of ancient buildings by the thermal method

TL;DR: In this article, the authors presented the monitoring of the wall's hidden structure, the finishing status and the moisture content using IR thermography, and an improved technique for the thermal properties measuring porous material.
