The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as discussed by the authors provides a comprehensive framework to cope with the intuitive, the rational, and the irrational in us all at the same time when we make decisions.
Abstract
There are three principles which one can recognize in problem solving. They are the principles of decomposition, comparative judgments, and synthesis of priorities. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) provides a comprehensive framework to cope with the intuitive, the rational, and the irrational in us all at the same time when we make decisions. It is a method we can use to integrate our perceptions and purposes into an overall synthesis. The AHP does not require that judgments be consistent or even transitive. The degree of consistency (or inconsistency) of the judgments is revealed at the end of the AHP process.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process

TL;DR: Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) as mentioned in this paper is a systematic procedure for representing the elements of any problem hierarchically, which organizes the basic rationality by breaking down a problem into its smaller constituent parts and then guides decision makers through a series of pairwise comparison judgments to express the relative strength or intensity of impact of the elements in the hierarchy.

Design Principles for Industrie 4.0 Scenarios

TL;DR: Design principles of Industrie 4.0 are identified so that academics may be enabled to further investigate on the topic, while practitioners may find assistance in identifying appropriate scenarios.

R&D project selection using the analytic network process

TL;DR: The paper discusses the use of the ANP, a general form of Saaty's analytic hierarchy process, as a model to evaluate the value of competing R&D project proposals, and presents a generic ANP model developed by the authors.

Project risk assessment using the analytic hierarchy process

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach that can be used to analyze and assess project risks during the bidding stage of a construction project and to overcome the limitations of the approaches currently used by contractors.

Developing a decision model for business process outsourcing

TL;DR: This paper identifies factors affecting the BPO decision and structures a decision model using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method to assist management in making better decisions in outsourcing their business processes and help them to obtain the most benefits from BPO.

A Scaling Method for Priorities in Hierarchical Structures

TL;DR: A method of scaling ratios using the principal eigenvector of a positive pairwise comparison matrix is investigated, showing that λmax = n is a necessary and sufficient condition for consistency.

The Analytic Hierarchy Process: Decision Making in Complex Environments

TL;DR: The Analytic Hierarchy Process is a problem solving framework that organizes the basic rationality by breaking down a problem into its smaller constituent parts and then calls for only simple pairwise comparison judgments, to develop priorities in each hierarchy.
