W. J. Meredith Edinburgh: Livingstone. 1967 Pp. viii + 134. Price £2 2s. The 'Manchester System' for the treatment of malignant diseases with radium and radon is internationally known and the earlier edition of this book, which was published in 1947, has become a standard textbook and handbook in the field of radiotherapy. The major feature of the system is that it describes, by means of relatively simple rules, methods by which significantly large areas or volumes of tissue can be treated to virtually uniform dosage by the arrangement of small discrete sources of radium and radon placed close to, or within, the volume to be treated.read more

The use of a transverse CT image for the estimation of the dose given to the rectum in intracavitary brachytherapy for carcinoma of the cervix
TL;DR: The maximal rectum dose value obtained from a transverse CT slice near the top of the vagina through point R was found to be a more representative point for the rectal dose burden and might therefore show a good correlation with complications.

Brachytherapy technology and physics practice since 1950: a half-century of progress.
TL;DR: The impact of three broad categories of innovation introduced since 1950 from the North American perspective are reviewed: the introduction of artificial radioactivity, computer- and image-based treatment planning, and basic single-source dosimetry.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the conventional 2D, the simulator-guided semi-3D and the recently developed CT-guided 3D brachytherapy treatment planning in the interstitial radiotherapy of breast cancer.

A CT based dosimetry system for intracavitary therapy in carcinoma of the cervix.
TL;DR: The physical dose distribution from intracavitary sources used in the treatment of carcinoma of the cervix can be accurately calculated in three dimensions and the use of the flexible rectal dose meter is used to determine the dose to lymph nodes, bladder and rectum.

Fractionated high dose rate brachytherapy moulds – a precise treatment for carcinoma of the pinna
Ernest Allan,A. W. B. Stanton,David A Pye,Conor D Collins,Lesley A Perry,Maeve Filby,John M Wilkinson +6 more
TL;DR: The treatment of superficial carcinoma of the pinna by means of HDR moulds is a safe and reliable technique and in this small series of patients there was total tumour control with excellent cosmesis.
