Relative contributions of late dry-season and early rains pasture contaminations with trichostrongyle eggs to the wet-season herbage infestation in eastern Nigeria

TLDR
The results suggest that in the Nigerian derived savanna the initial wet-season herbage infestation in pastures grazed by infected cattle during the dry and wet seasons will consist of L3 from late dry-season and early rains pasture contaminations, the former being the major contributor to the infestation.About:

Journal ArticleDOI
Development and survival of free-living stages of gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep and goats on pasture in the Nigerian derived savanna.
TL;DR: The results indicate that it is unlikely that gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep and goats can develop or survive on open pasture during the dry season in the Nigerian derived savanna zone.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vertical migration of Haemonchus contortus infective larvae on Cynodon dactylon and Paspalum notatum pastures in response to climatic conditions.
TL;DR: This study showed that the H. contortus infective larvae can survive beyond 21 days in the soil and infest pasture grasses when the climatic conditions are favorable.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of time of day, season and stratum on Haemonchus contortus and Haemonchus placei third-stage larvae on irrigated pasture.
TL;DR: Larval recoveries of H. contortus L3 were recovered in the summer and autumn, and H. placei in the spring and summer, and for both parasites, the recoverie of larvae from the upper and lower herbage were larger than those from the mat and soil.

Further studies on the development and availability of infective larvae of bovine gastrointestinal trichostrongylids on pasture in eastern Nigeria
B.B. Fakae,S.N. Chiejina +1 more
TL;DR: The dynamics of pasture populations of infective larvae (L3) of Cooperia, Haemonchus and Trichostrongylus species were studied at Nsukka, eastern Nigeria, during April to November 1984, finding that larval development and survival occurred very readily during the wet season but apparently ceased in November at the start of the dry season.

The differentiation of the infective larvae of some common nematode parasites of cattle.
TL;DR: Studies are reported on the differential diagnosis of the infective larvae of Strongyloides papillosus, Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia ostertagi, Trichostrongylus axei, Cooperia oncophora, C. punctata, and Oesophagostomum (Bosicola) radiatum, all of which occur in cattle in Queensland.

A study of the ecology of the adult bogong moth, Agrotis Infusa (Boisd) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), with special reference to its behaviour during migration and aestivation.
TL;DR: Although A. infusa is a multivoltine species, there is evidence that a facultative diapause occurs in the adults of the spring generation, and this, together with migration, enables most of the adult population to avoid the breeding grounds during the summer, when the pastures are dominated by perennial grasses unpalatable to the larvae.
