Rule-based transformation of metadata
TLDR
In this article, a computer automatically reads each object in a metadata that is descriptive of a database, and applies a number of rules, to check if the object triggers a rule. If so, then the computer automatically changes the metadata as per an action identified by the triggered rule.Abstract:
A computer automatically reads each object in a metadata that is descriptive of a database. Then the computer automatically applies a number of rules, to check if the object triggers a rule. If so, then the computer automatically changes the metadata as per an action identified by the triggered rule. After all rules are applied to the object, and after all objects in the metadata are processed, the resulting metadata is used to change the database's structure. The objects may be read from the metadata in an order (e.g. hierarchy) specified in meta-metadata that is descriptive of the metadata.read more

Methods And Systems For Managing Data
Yan Arrouye,Dominic Glampaolo,Bas Ording,Gregory N. Christie,Stephen O. Lemay,Marcel van Os,Imran Chaudhri,Kevin Tiene,Pavel Cisler +8 more
TL;DR: The type of information in metadata for one type of file differs from the type of metadata for another type of a file as discussed by the authors, and the metadata from files created by several different software applications are captured and the captured metadata is searched.

Systems and methods for classifying and transferring information in a storage network
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe systems and methods for data classification to facilitate and improve data management within an enterprise and present methods for generating a data structure of metadata that describes system data and storage operations.

Systems and methods for using metadata to enhance data identification operations
TL;DR: In this paper, a metabase formed from metadata can be used for various data management operations, such as enhanced data management, enhanced data identification, enhanced storage operations, data classification for organizing and storing the metadata, cataloging of metadata for the stored metadata, and/or user interfaces for managing data.

Retrieval of related records from a relational database
TL;DR: In this paper, a generic cursor is defined against the destination relation record occurence, values of the specified relation are stored, and when a starting field are copied from it to the generic cursor to form a completed cursor.

Method and apparatus for managing metadata in a database management system
TL;DR: In this article, a method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for managing metadata in a database management system is disclosed, which comprises the steps of accepting a command in the DBMS that implicates metadata modification and providing that command to a metadata service, parsing the command to determine if the command requires a metadata modification, accessing a rule set defining rules for modifying the metadata when indicated by parsed commands, and enforcing the rule defined in the rule set.
Patent
Method of modifying a populated database structure by modifying metadata describing the database structure
TL;DR: In this article, a method of modifying a database structure requires firstly modifying metadata that describes the relevant database structure, and then the relevant DB structure is automatically modified to conform to the modified metadata.

Optimizing XSLT based on input XML document structure description and translating XSLT into equivalent XQuery expressions
TL;DR: In this article, a set of XML documents via an XSLT stylesheet is made more efficient by rewriting the stylesheet at compile-time, based on the structural description of the XML documents, into an optimized stylesheet containing fewer dynamic template-matching calls than the original stylesheet.
