TLDR
In this article, the authors examine some of the existing theories and varying conceptual frameworks for understanding the family and highlight certain concepts dealing with internal family linkages which appear to offer greater potential for helping the family.Abstract:
Social Work with families conducted in neighborhood-based, group-service agencies requires theories and concepts of family life which are tailored to contribute to practice methodology and maximize strategic advantages inherent in such settings. The same need exists among other practitioners. This paper draws on the social sciences and examines some of the existing theories and varying conceptual frameworks for understanding the family. Measured against the unique characteristics of agency practices and patterns of service, certain concepts dealing with internal family linkages are highlighted which appear to offer greater potential for helping the family.read more
