TLDR
In this paper, the authors examined the rolling motion of a ship with particular regard to the possibility of obtaining oscillations which are subharmonic to the excitation frequency, and three different mechanisms were found to be responsible for this phenomenon, the importance of which has already been recognized in the context of ship stability.

Nonlinear dynamics of a $$\varvec{\phi ^6}-$$ ϕ 6 - modified Duffing oscillator: resonant oscillations and transition to chaos

TL;DR: In this article, the nonlinear dynamics of a hybrid Rayleigh-Van der Pol-Duffing oscillator including pure and impure quadratic damping are investigated, and the multiple timescales method is used to study exhaustively various resonances states.

Stability and complicated rolling responses of ships in regular beam seas

TL;DR: In this article, an analytical procedure for predicting the stability and complicated responses of a vessel rolling in regular seas is presented, where the relative wave slope and encounter frequency can be changed alternately and bifurcation diagrams are generated to show the regions of the parameter space where instabilities and degradations in seaworthiness occur.

Roll dynamics of a ro-ro ship

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the effect of different representation of restoring moment on roll motion and found that the effect depends on the characteristics of the GZ curve and the wave steepness.

Nonlinear Response and Stability Analysis of Vessel Rolling Motion in Random Waves Using Stochastic Dynamical Systems

Zhiyong Su
TL;DR: Su et al. as discussed by the authors studied the stability of vessel rolling motion with strongly nonlinear softening stiffness using the methods of stochastic dynamical systems and developed an automatic cumulant neglect tool to predict the response of the high dimensional dynamical system with higher order neglect.
