Superficial lightning injuries—their ‘fractal’ shape and origin

TLDR
It is concluded that 'fractal burns' are caused by surface discharges of a positive polarity and the recognition of such burns can help to elucidate the type and mechanism of the lightning strike.

Lightning caused injuries in humans

TL;DR: In this article, the different types of injuries that may result from a lightning strike are documented and they are summarized, from engineering rather than a medical perspective, from an engineering perspective.

Ear injuries caused by lightning: report of 18 cases

TL;DR: Results of clinical management and outcomes of lightning ear damage in 18 patients treated at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, University Hospital Split during the 1984-1999 period are reviewed.
Journal ArticleDOI

The long-term consequences of lightning injuries.

TL;DR: The outcome showed that none of the patients suffered from any deficits or long-term problems that could be related to the original lightning injury, and the overall outcome of lightning injuries is more favourable than generally reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lichen spinulosus after the ingestion of omeprazole.

TL;DR: The first step in testing this fractal hypothesis is careful observation to see if there is any suggestion of a current-and-injury distribution which may fit a fractal pattern.

Fractals: Form, Chance and Dimension

TL;DR: Fractals as mentioned in this paper is a new field of mathematics that models the most interdisciplinary grab-bag of naturally occurring forms, such as coastlines and clouds, crystals, snowflakes and cosmological structures.

Fractal Dimension of Dielectric Breakdown

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the simplest nontrivial stochastic model for dielectric breakdown naturally leads to fractal structures for the discharge pattern, and the results were compared with properly designed experiments.

The mechanism of the long spark formation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the state of the art of the research on the physics of long sparks and present both the experimental results and the theoretical models which have been obtained for each single phase.
