Journal ArticleDOI
Basaltic-volcano systems
TL;DR: A review and personal account of basaltic volcanism concentrates on the geological aspects and physical controls, unlike most others which concentrate on geo-chemistry as discussed by the authors, which serves as an update to reviews by Wentworth & Macdonald 20 to 40 years ago.
Journal ArticleDOI
Morphology and taxonomy of paleozoic millipedes (diplopoda: chilognatha: archipolypoda) from scotland
TL;DR: The oldest known evidence of spiracles is demonstrated in Pneumodesmus newmani, proving that the oldest known millipedes were fully terrestrial.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coupling solid-phase microextraction with ambient mass spectrometry using surface coated wooden-tip probe for rapid analysis of ultra trace perfluorinated compounds in complex samples.
TL;DR: The porous structural surface together with the dual extraction mechanisms demonstrated that the SPME probe has an outstanding enrichment capacity, enhancing sensitivity by approximately 4000-8000 folds for the detection in aqueous samples, and 100-500-fold in whole blood and milk samples.
Journal ArticleDOI
Palaeozoic and Tertiary transcurrent movements on the Great Glen fault
TL;DR: Two periods of major transcurrent movement on the Great Glen fault are recognized: (1) a sinistral shift (essentially that of Kennedy 1946) of about 83 miles, which occurred in late Lower or early Middle Old Red times; and (2) a dextral shift of 18 miles which was initiated at the close of the strictly regional phase of the Hebridean Tertiary vulcanicity as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sedimentology and palaeogeography of the Upper Old Red Sandstone in the Scottish Border Basin
TL;DR: The Upper Old Red Sandstone of the southern Scottish Borders is a wholly fluviatile succession as discussed by the authors and the basal unconformity with the Silurian shows evidence of exhumed,?pre-Upper O.R.S. topography.
