Journal ArticleDOI
Ovarian tumors of the hen.
TL;DR: It is apparent that hens have a high rate of ovarian tumors, but that such tumors are uncommon in hens less than 2 years of age, and that Hormonal imbalance does not appear to be a factor in the development of these adenocarcinomas.
Journal ArticleDOI
An overlooked DNA source for non-invasive genetic analysis in birds
TL;DR: It was found that feather clots from museum specimens provided results nearly as good as footpad and better than those from the more commonly used museum skin snips.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heat stress impairs performance and induces intestinal inflammation in broiler chickens infected with Salmonella Enteritidis
W.M. Quinteiro-Filho,A.V. Gomes,M.L. Pinheiro,A. Ribeiro,V. Ferraz-de-Paula,C S Astolfi-Ferreira,Antonio José Piantino Ferreira,João Palermo-Neto +7 more
TL;DR: The combination of HS and Salmonella Enteritidis infection may disrupt the intestinal barrier, which would allow pathogenic bacteria to migrate through the intestinal mucosa to the spleen and generate an inflammatory infiltrate in the gut, decreasing performance parameters.
OtherDOI
Evolution of air breathing: oxygen homeostasis and the transitions from water to land and sky.
TL;DR: The origin of oxygen homeostasis is reviewed, a primal selection factor for all respiratory systems, which in turn function as gatekeepers of the cascade that balances supply against toxicity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complete association between a retroviral insertion in the tyrosinase gene and the recessive white mutation in chickens
Chung-Ming Chang,Jean-Luc Coville,G. Coquerelle,David Gourichon,Ahmad Oulmouden,Michèle Tixier-Boichard +5 more
TL;DR: The insertion of a complete avian retroviral sequence in intron 4 of the tyrosinase gene is diagnostic of the recessive white mutation in chickens and shows that all homozygous carriers of this insertion had a white plumage in various chicken strains.
