The performance of comedy by artificial intelligence agents

The PhD project is composed of two parts: a creative project (thirty-five per cent of the total
research project); and an exegesis (sixty-five per cent). The creative project employs a pair of
chat-bots, natural language processing artificial intelligence agents, to act as comedian and
straight-man in a comedy performance based on a topic supplied by the user in a web-based
interface. This is an interdisciplinary project that draws on the domains of humour theory,
